Pedestrian Struck by a Commuter Train
On September 24, 2019 at 8:07pm, Port Jervis City Police responded to a report of a male pedestrian struck by a commuter train in the vicinity of Jersey Avenue near the intersection with Pennsylvania Avenue. Investigation thus far has revealed that a 53 year old Port Jervis male was fatally struck by a west bound commuter train. The incident is currently under investigation by the Port Jervis City and Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Departments. The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of his family.
Update (September 26, 2019): John Erick Evans, age 53, of Port Jervis, was fatally struck by a Metro North Commuter Train that was traveling west in the City of Port Jervis behind the area of Family Dollar located on Jersey Avenue. At this time, we have reason to believe that the victim was attempting to take control of his pet dog that was running in the vicinity of the railroad tracks at the time he was accidentally struck by the on-coming commuter train. The incident is still under investigation by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police and City of Port Jervis Police Department.
