Seat Belt Safety

In 2017 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives and could have saved an additional 2,549 people if they had been wearing seat belts. Seat belts have been proven to be one of the best ways to save your life in a crash. Yet many still don’t buckle up. Worse still, not wearing a seat belt is a habit that will pass on to impressionable youth, who in turn will think it’s safe to not buckle up. The Click It or Ticket campaign focuses on safety education, strong laws, and law enforcement officers saving lives.
Using funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the Port Jervis Police Department routinely partners with the Town of Deerpark Police Department to deploy patrol resources to combine increased education and enforcement to communicate to road users the importance of seat belt use and ensure that motorists and passengers are safely restrained. Officers assigned to traffic safety patrols will be extra vigilant to enforce the state’s vehicle and traffic provisions pertaining to occupant restraints.
